Attitudes to Sports in different Cultures

The purpose of this study is to investigate attitudes toward sports held by people in a variety of cultures. You do not need to be a sports fan to complete the survey. In fact, we prefer having some respondents who spend little time watching or participating in sports.

This is an academic research survey, not marketing research. Sports have become more and more prominent in many countries and have become a significant part of many economies. We are hoping to find out how people in different countries view various sports issues.

This survey may take fifteen to twenty minutes.
MAKE SURE TO COMPLETE THE ENTIRE SURVEY AS MISSING DATA MAY CAUSE THE STATISTICAL PROGRAM TO OMIT ALL OF YOUR DATA.

There is an increasing interest in the multicultural study of various phenomena. This study will involve the

exploration of cross-cultural differences in this attitude area.

There are no risks. Your participation is anonymous and your data will be recorded by the survey program Survey Monkey without any names attached. The questions mostly deal with views on sports and do not create discomfort to participants.

Potential benefits to participants and society include a better understanding of sports attitudes and cross-cultural aspects of these attitudes.

We first ask you to supply demographic information such as the nation city in which you now reside, your age, your gender, etc.

After the demographic questions, both sports fans and non-fans can respond by agreeing or disagreeing wihe general questions about sports such as:"Sports build character in young people."

Several questions sets only fans will answer because they deal with being a fan (for example):"I like to attend sports events with family or friends."

Finally, everyone can answer the questions on social issues which will give researchers an idea of whether there are correlations between sports attitudes and other attitude areas. For example,
"We should strive to reduce the gap between the rich and the poor."

There will be no compensation for participating in this study.

The researchers want to compare sports attitudes across cultures in fans, non-fans, and athletes. For example, what features of sports lead fans to spend great amounts of time, energy, and money watching them? If sports are a type of entertainment to the fans what things are entertaining and stimulating to them? Do sports values differ across cultures? Do sports attitudes relate to other social attitudes such as patriotism? Does fan interest in sports relate to the personality styles of the fans such as their need for competition? The study results will be presented at conferences and published in relevant journals. Please contact the lead author to get on a mailing list to receive a summary of the findings. Thank you very much for your participation!!
