Liberian Pen Pals - New Friends in Liberia

I am a mother of three children, two boys and a girl. I am married. I am 31 years old and have a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work. I have one year of work experience in Social Work and seven years of work experience in Administration. I currently live in Monrovia, Liberia and work for the Monrovia City Corporation as an Executive Assistant in the Office of the Mayor.

While in my teens, the Liberian civil war had already destroyed the basic fabrics upon which the nation was built and similarly undermined the systems and processes that governed the country. The consequences that accompanied these unfortunate developments were the uprooting of the population from their homes in addition to the breakdown in the provision of basic social services such as health care, education, amongst others.

Given the circumstances, once I had the opportunity to begin my education at the undergraduate level, I opted to pursue a profession in Social Work. Having successfully achieved my original ambition, I worked within my field of study for a period of one year after which I was fortunate to have another job, but in Administration where I presently work as an Executive Assistant.

My urge and passion for the Public Administration profession emerged when I got a job as an Executive Assistant in 2012 in the Public Sector. I realized that administration which is a determined action taken in pursuit of a conscious purpose has similar features as Social Work and the two disciplines target similar systems “the mezzo, micro and macro systems”. Also, while Social Workers are committed to making a difference in the lives of the less fortunate by providing help, Public Administration implements policies, maintains civil society and provides for the needs of the public. I am currently studying my Masters in Public Administration at the University of Liberia. I am opting to work in the field of Human Resource Management after acquiring my Masters. I also envisage pursuing other post-graduate studies abroad.

My dislikes: I am strongly against people who place women in less important roles. I believe we all are humans and should be given similar opportunities as men.

Likes: I love people who respect me, people who will help me pursue my dreams and never look down on me regardless of my flaws.
